Weekly News Bulletin – 1st September 2017

This week, we shared the BBC’s news on Queensferry Crossing being lit up ahead of it’s opening, which officially opens on Monday 4th September, and will open to traffic on the 7th September. This was a brilliant project to be involved in with our cable management division. You can read more about this here.

The Construction Enquirer reported on the bidding starting for two London stations with the promise of nearly £3bn of work and 4000 jobs being supported during the construction. The formal invitation to tender will be issued to contractors next January, please see the link below for more information.

We also posted about our MetSPEC software, which gives a more complete solution to engineers using the software through calculating purlins requirements faster and easier for them. Please see the link below for more information and how it could help you.

As reported by The Construction Index, the large-scale fire safety tests as a result of the Grenfell Tower were also completed. This final test of a wall cladding system passed which means that only three out of the seven cladding systems have passed the Government’s fire safety testing regime.

Finally, Construction News reported that industry leaders are calling on clients and contractors to manage risk on a more collaborative basis, after the CN100 revealed the industry’s largest 10 contractors had an average pre-tax margin of -0.5 per cent. Here at Metsec, we strive to manage all risk with our clients through collaborating from the earliest stage possible.
