voestalpine Metsec leads the way

Maintaining its position at the forefront of the British construction industry, our specialist cold roll forming operations, voestalpine Metsec has recently added yet another accolade to its long list of credentials by achieving verification with the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) for its dry lining metal framed components for gypsum plasterboard systems.

CCPI is a United Kingdom initiative developed by the Construction Products Association as a direct response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety set up following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London, where 72 people lost their lives in a fire which broke out in a 24-storey block of flats. A subsequent independent review into the catastrophe, headed by Dame Judith Hackitt, highlighted failings in a number of areas and made clear that construction product information needs to be communicated in a clear and accurate way.

The aim of the CCPI is to help organisations drive for higher standards in the presentation of construction product information, with a priority on building safety. It is important to note that the verification process applies to construction products and systems themselves; an organisation or brand in itself cannot gain verification or make any claims of compliance beyond a specific product set.

voestalpine Metsec’s achievement of CCPI verification for its dry-lining systems was marked by a celebratory event recently held in London and attended by other construction products manufacturers. Dame Judith Hackitt joined the event, addressing manufacturers working towards CCPI verification of their product sets and welcoming those who had already verified product sets against the Code.

Amanda Long, CCPI Chief Executive Officer, said: “The CCPI assessment and verification is a robust process looking not just at the product set information for verification but also the company culture and management systems to support a high standard of product information management. We are delighted to confirm the first product sets qualifying for the CCPI Mark which will now begin to be seen in the market.  I hope this will inspire more manufacturers to start their journey towards product information verification against the CCPI. Next, we will see the demand-side seeking out CCPI verified products as we roll out our Supporters Offer and our Merchants and Distributors Code”.

Commenting on the achievement, Andy Hackett, Director and General Manager of voestalpine Metsec’s Dry Lining Division, states, “Our reputation as an industry leader relies not only on the quality and performance of our products but also on recognising the needs of the market and our customers.

“We have always been an early adopter of initiatives which are designed to improve the way in which the industry works. Providing clear information in the statements that we make in support of our products is at the heart of our business and CCPI verification will provide specifiers and contractors with even greater confidence in the accuracy and veracity of our product declarations.”

voestalpine Metsec dry-lining systems will be one of the first construction product sets to carry the CCPI mark of verification.
