SFS introduced

SFS Steel framing is extremely versatile and it can be used to provide solutions to many different types of building construction. There are a range of solutions available from external wall panels, both infill and continuous to internal high bay separating walls and it’s also possible to create complete load bearing superstructures.

Until the introduction of SFS framing the most common method of creating infill walling was to use blockwork, however the benefits of light gauge steel, such as speed of construction, cost and sustainability has meant that now SFS framing is the most common form of infill walling used in the UK today.

During its lifecycle Metsec SFS has seen some changes, most notably the introduction of the slotted header track, delivering a number of benefits over alternate systems, and the use of colour coding on sections for easier installation. Generally though, the SFS offer from either Metsec or others has remained unchanged in decades.

The new section range has been developed and launched after significant testing and development. The innovative new range offers a range of benefits including lighter, more cost-efficient and sustainable design options as well as robust fire solutions enabling more efficient wall construction performance.

What?

The section range has been expanded and enhanced from the previous range, introducing new stud widths and gauges.

  • New stud and track sections for walling applications starts at 90mm narrowing the wall construction to provide more useable floor area or the option for extra insulation improving the thermal performance
  • New stud and track sections for joist applications ranges from 210mm to 350mm providing cost savings and reduced floor constructions
  • Revised stud and track flange widths to give greater flexibility to the full solution
  • New light gauge slotted head track for residential applications
  • The new engineered universal cleat replaces the two previous dead load and continuous walling cleats, enabling Metsec to offer ‘one product fits all’ solutions
  • New accessories
  • New design specification pack

How many?

Metsec is offering a more engineered solution for each project giving a weight reduction of between 5-10% and a potential cost saving of 5-10%.

The introduction of new universal cleats reduces the range to just 36 options from the previous 108.
