Tesco Distribution Centre
Metsec, the light gauge structural steel specialist, has supplied 60km of its zed purlins for the roof of a new Tesco distribution centre in Scotland.
High snow drift loads of up to 4.8kN/m2 were caused by abrupt 9m changes in the roof height of the 73,000m² duo pitch portal frame building in Livingston. Metsec engineers, using the new version of the company’s building shell design program, MetSPEC 10, identified that a heavy end bay system of 8m span, 232 mm deep purlins, in varying gauges to suit the loading conditions, was the most structurally efficient and cost effective solution for the 608m long Tesco building.
