Initial Enquiries

Basic panel designs can be provided to assist the design team at the early stage of a project. These panels provide a basic level of design together with all relevant connection and fixing details. It is also possible to provide a basic material summary list to assist early costing of the components.

The Metsec panels are colour coded to highlight any different section gauges which are used within a panel. The studs are then delivered to site with the same colour coding to assist with the site control of the material and to aid installation and checking of the Metsec SFS.

If you simply require a basic stud size and a project specific specification, you can to complete our online enquiry form.

Construction Drawings

voestalpine Metsec Framing can also offer a complete detailing service, providing a full set of construction drawings. The drawings set out a complete value engineered solution offering the most economic framing solution. The drawing process also ensures that the voestalpine Metsec SFS is properly coordinated with any other design team drawings and ensures that the full extent of the work is clearly defined.

These drawings can be used by Main Contractors as Tender Drawings to ensure that they acquire the most competitive price from voestalpine Metsec’s network of Approved Installers. Alternatively drawings can be provided directly to Installers to support them as part of their Design and Supply Sub-Contract.

BIM

As the construction industry starts to embrace the benefits that can be achieved from collaborative working, there will be new demands placed on Construction and Design Teams. Metsec Framing is well placed to offer assistance as we have been BIM Level II compliant for many years and we have resources to fully detail the cold rolled steel elements of your project in either 2D or 3D environments. Metsec has the capacity to detail projects in either Tekla or Revit, allowing the Metsec SFS to be detailed within a design teams model.

Alternatively, Metsec Framing sections can now be downloaded for direct incorporation into your project BIM file. The individual 3D sections are available for download as Industry Foundation Classes (.ifc files) so that they can be readily imported into your BIM model, regardless of the modelling software being used. The .ifc files all contain the necessary data to assist with the production of the Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) file required by Clients at the end of a project.

Our Framing section .ifc files can be downloaded here.

Site Visits

The use of light gauge steel framing is still a relatively new product within the construction industry, but it is becoming more and more common place.

Metsec believes that it is important to check that our products are being correctly installed in accordance with designs and details. We therefore visit sites to inspect the installation of our Approved Installers. This gives both the Installer and the Main Contractor the peace of mind that the Metsec products are being correctly installed.

Installer Training

voestalpine Metsec SFS Approved Installer Training Courses are run by experienced voestalpine Metsec employees approximately every two months for groups of 12 to 15 installers wanting to improve their knowledge of SFS products. The course has been externally accredited by the EAL.

The day long training cause is a theoretical course with a mixture of PowerPoint presentations and workshops providing the installers with knowledge of the SFS products, how they are installed correctly and how to identify and avoid installation problems. Items covered in the course include;

  • Overview of Metsec & voestalpine
  • Introduction and applications of SFS
  • SFS product range
  • SFS installation for all major product groups
  • Metsec factory tour, design services
  • Fixing specification and uses
  • Material scheduling and ordering
  • Site checks
  • Avoiding installation problems.

The open workshop approach allows the attendees to ask questions about and discuss any aspect of SFS and increase their knowledge base. The course has proved very popular with on average over 100 attendees each year.
