Our Performance
In March 2004 we commissioned an Energy Survey from the Carbon Trust. We then established our own in-house team to implement their recommendations and identify further areas of improvement in our quest to become Carbon neutral.

Our actions and achievements so far include.

Transport
  • Deliveries are co-ordinated to minimise journeys
  • Vehicles are loaded to capacity wherever possible
Pollution
  • No substances are put down the drain
  • Bunded storage areas for oil stored on site
Social Responsibility
  • Sponsorship agreement with Tipton Harriers Athletics Club. In return for sponsorship Tipton Harriers provide Metsec employees with lifestyle coaching and access to their training sessions.
  • Part of Sandwell Business Education Partnership
  • Member of the Metals Academy Partnership comprising 6 companies and 4 local schools which provides structured teacher placements, structured work experience placements, company visits and industry ambassadors.
Energy
  • Fast action doors installed to reduce heat loss
  • Zoned heating and reduced temperatures
  • Improved lighting controls including motion detector activated lighting
  • Variable drive compressors installed, which use 10% of the energy of the original compressors
  • New roof with larger skylights installed, which allows more natural light
  • Reduced CO2 emissions by 25%
  • Reduced gas consumption by 55% and bills by 25%
  • Reduced electricity consumption by 14%
Waste
  • Metals, card, paper and oil drums, toner cartridges, computer equipment, fluorescent tubes segregated and recycled
  • Sent 20% fewer skips to landfill
