In an interesting project 60 tonnes of SFS external and internal walling was used to add 2 floors to the existing 30m high, ten storey reinforced concrete frame building. This created 2,000 m² of space for 24 duplex penthouses in a 32 month construction programme. In total the SFS took just 38 weeks to install using approved Metsec installers before the framework was clad in stone to match the rest of the structure. In this case the SFS was specified for the superstructure because it provided the best possible strength to weight ratio on the load sensitive building. Despite its light weight the structure can withstand wind loads of up to 1.5 kN/m² and carry all the imposed loads.
Finally, the light weight and ease of handling of the SFS, coupled with very limited site storage space and materials handling capacity, meant that SFS was the ideal solution for this project. It also meant that it was quick to install and flexible enough to accommodate door and window points as well as both mechanical and electrical services.
