The height of a new seven storey Premier Travel Inn was cut by nearly 2.5m thanks to Metsec’s light gauge steel framing, saving construction costs.

Reducing the overall height of the hotel in Borehamwood cut the external wall area by more than 300m². It also brought the floor level of the uppermost storey within the 18m limit above which fire resistance has to be increased to 90 minutes.

Metsec’s pre-panelised wall frame system achieved a clear floor to ceiling height of 2.4m with a storey height of 2.7m, saving more than 400mm per floor over a typical concrete or hot rolled steel frame structure.
