BIM in 2 Minutes

What is BIM? A little reminder

BIM, or Building Information Modelling, is the collective pooling and sharing of information on a project. Taking this collaborative approach can lead to projects being delivered faster and with lower costs – which we think is an all round smarter approach to construction.

With the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), the construction industry is rethinking and innovating its way of working to improve efficiency, quality control and team work. Information is stored together in one place, making it easier to access by the whole team involved in the project. The consistency of keeping all information accessible in one place can minimise the risk of mistakes or discrepancies.

What is BIM Level 2?

BIM Level 2 is defined as “managed collaborative working in 3D design using separate models” – but it’s so much more than that! It is required by the government on all public sector construction projects.

It’s all the important, non-graphical information, all stored in one place and accessible to the entire project team – enabling collaboration and avoiding clashes. This collaborative approach to construction and builds allows potential risks or errors to be spotted prior to project progression as there are a number of professionals accessing relevant information for review.

The BIM model can then be handed over to the client at the end of the project – driving cost savings throughout the buildings lifecycle.
